Overview:

"NAKAMA" is the capstone of my first year at university. A small prototype for an ARPG concept.

This is a combat-focused, third-person action game. My goal with this project was to create a 3rd person action RPG where players progressively enhance their abilities through leveling up and equipping accessories.

Characters are developed with a consistent design philosophy, entailing specific rules for each implementation. Each character type caters to distinct player experiences; aggressive individuals may favor one archetype, while others inclined towards passive gameplay are more inclined to another. The main goal is to empower the player, adding significance to tactical choices in combat while sustaining engagement, striving to achieve balance between enjoyable and powerful character design, as well as creating tactical environments for the player to deliberately formulate strategies.

My Role & Ownerships

  • Create overall combat standards.

  • Design and implement the initial combat system from scratch using entirely Unreal Engine 4 Blueprints.

  • Design and implement the cast of enemies.

  • Design and implement the player character along with his different weapons and set of skills.

  • Level Design.

  • Programming.

  • Camera and Cinematic Design.

  • Implement UI and Visual Effects.

  • Design and prototype attacks by focusing on startup, active, and recovery frames to adjust animations using Unreal Engine Blueprint.

Design Breakdown

NAKAMA's design is underpinned by a set of core principles that shape the player’s experience. These principles have served me as guiding lights, ensuring that every aspect of the gameplay contributes to a cohesive and engaging experience.
